    3. Hello List, Just wanted you all to know I am still here... it turns out I had mail problems that I was working with Rootsweb to fix, and it turns out the problem was hotmail (where I get my email right now) suddenly decided to claim all rootsweb mail was spam and didn't deliver it to me. I hope I have things fixed now. The list is still here.... I have given up several other lists and the IrelandGenWeb websites, but I am keeping this list. School started for us here on Aug 5 so these first few weeks are hectic even tho now I am in more of an administrative capacity, with longer hours and more responsibility in some ways. I also unfortunately am still coping with orthopedic problems from the knee surgery which did not go well last October and have to use a cane all the time now, which means doing anything, going anywhere takes a lot longer. For all these reasons right now I just have limited time to do anything. Hopefully that will get better as things settle down. We will still do the Ancestor Party like we usually do (tho we skipped last March due to my health issues) probably around Labor Day or so, and I do intend to get a website for us back up, as well as my Helpful Hints page asap. So I'm here, and I'm hoping that you all can just converse and monitor yourselves a bit until things can be more like they were. If anyone has a problem just email me personally. Hopefully I will now get the listmail as I hope I have fixed the hotmail problem (crossed fingers). Thanks for hanging in there with me.... 1. ROLL CALL for PURCELL
    2. Mary Greene
    3. I have a Christopher Purcell, born around 1796.( according to his age at death.) My 1st record of him is, Nov. 27th 1832, in Ottawa, Canada, where he marries a Roseanne Fleming at Notre-Dame Church. Later they move to St. Alphonse-Rodriquez, Quebec, Canada. Christopher and Roseanne had 11 children. Christopher died there, Dec. 13th, 1878. I "believe" this Purcell family was originally from County Cork, but I have been unable to trace it back. Any one searching this name? Mary Greene@LL.net

    3. Yikes! I'm pretty sure the list admin is the *only* person who can start a roll call! This is not a particularly good idea without her permission. Many people on the list don't like/can't handle massive mail loads and need some kind of warning. Please! Let's wait until the list admin gives us permission to start the roll call! P.S. No one seems to know *where* our fearless list admin is these days. Anyone out there feel like contacting rootsweb.com and adopting this list?? -- --- Richard A. 3. Ten years ago I began a journey to Ireland ...terrified of what I had been taught and all the time excited to go ...........I wanted to find where my ancestors came from after all Thomas O'Donoghue was certaily a name to be proud of. My first trip I was so in awe of the place its wonders were too many to take in and I only touched base on one or two things on the search. Then I was lucky enough to return again *having an Irish hubby helped* at the time I wasnt too fussed about the research I just loved the place and its food and people BUT this time I fell hopelessly in love with a church and her graveyard and the area and so began a love affaire that today my husband says, pushes him out ........lol But to make you all feel better about undetaking your research for Irish ancestors............I made mistakes many before I began to get some of it right........every time I found a document there was another two missing ........but now many moons on and having seen the sun rise and set over Ireland many times I consider myself a very lucky women. But now back home in Australia I have undertaken the job to build a data base on all my researching be it not the county you girls are looking at........... Moral to this boring story is Get in give it a go nothing ventured nothing gained and on the way, you meet great friends, you even get cross with a few people, but its the learning and sharing that makes this experience worth while ..............my only pet hate today and will always remain so are codes in Mails like Diana's Diana you know where NH is I dont give me a clue and maybe with new data sources being released often ,now ,we may well break down some of your reservations and aid you in your search Lee you have two fine Irish sounding names Carr and Sullivan and I love the thought that you have a bottle to fill with water from the creek. but you never told us where your man came from. No research is wasted as the irish say *When God built the world he gave them time to spare* So lets give it a go lets shake the walls that keep us finding our ancestors dont let reservations and fear hold us back. After all after 23 years and looking I finally received a clue to my greats and would you believe it not where I have been looking but on the way I learnt heaps and in learning have become willing to share and help others, as many on these lists do. ©Cara_Links Researching Co.Wicklow A friend is one who accepts your past, loves you as you are, and believes in your tomorrows

    3. Diana, I couldn't agree more. The little research I have done has led nowhere and I baulk at 'wasting my time' trying to get started. Wow! to have here hair! I would love to have something tangible of my Cornelius Sullivan - when the rains come and the creek starts flowing I have a bottle ready to fill with water from the creek that bisected his farming land in the Blue Mountain region of NSW Australia, that is as personal a memento I can hope for. Thank you for the inspiration to get make a move towards finding his Irish connections. 3. Eleanor Molloy was transported to Australia per "Brothers" arriving 1827. She was native of Tullamore, Tipperary. Born around 1800, she was widowed with three children when sentenced to "life" in the colony. I would like to know whether Molloy was her married or maiden name; what would have happened to her children; how to access her trial papers? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. 3. Sisters, Mary and Catherine Farrell, were Bounty Immigrants from Galway in 1841. The "William Turner" left Plymouth and arrived Sydney in Oct, 1841 and the girls travelled under the protection of a Mrs Mary Donnellan who travelled with her husband Larry and children and another Donnellan family. The girls parents were James Farrell and Honor (may be Emma) Hughes and gave Galway as their native place, though we are not sure of the correctness of this information. I would like to know where the girls came from, dates of birth, marriage details for their parents, any siblings, death of Honor Farrell who was deceased when the girls sailed in 1841. The girls were known to "Brian McCabe" obviously someone important - but who was he? Any ideas or suggestions on where to go next would be greatly appreciated. Regards Lee

His parents were Philip Sullivan and Mary Hannon. I would like to know how to access his trial papers, where in Cork he came from, marriage of parents and if he had any siblings. Any ideas any one? 2. Diana Ledger
    3. Well here is a post to the list ( don't want anyone bored). I am in fear of searching my Irish line and feel that I will not be able to find anything and need some advise, anything will help. County Cork, Ireland and my Sullivan's came in 1878 and have not found them anywhere prior to the 1900 census. I know their names and know where they lived in NH but that is it other than the death certificates and the parents name. Every Irishman knows a Mary Murphy and I have one too. One of the daughters became a nun and I found her in the convent, (I know this because they gave me her hair!). I must add that a very kind person went to the NH archives and obtained birth certificates for me with the maiden name of Crimmins. I have never forgotten that kind person, just cannot find his email address. That was 4 years ago. Someone told me I had to go to Ireland if I really wanted information that was correct. I would love to go but even then I would not know what to do. Any advise? I sure could use some. I have some papers with names from the sale of land 1947 and that was given to me, along with the hair. I really feel inept and could use some advise. Thank you to anyone who has any help to offer. Diana

    1. Royal Irish Constabulary
    2. My great grandfather served with the Royal Irish Constabulary. I have the basic information from the RIC, but notice that they have an Advanced Search which can be requested. It states "In the case of the ranks of Sergeant and above more information may be available from the printed RIC lists held at the museum. For this Seach a fee of 25 pounds is required as this is very time consuming." Has anyone requested this advanced search and, if so, do you feel it was worth it? What does 25 pounds equate to in US dollars? Thanks in advance. Colleen
