William Henry SCHAFFER was born ABT 1865 in Alder Gulch (of gold boom fame) Montana. Near what is Virginia City, Montana. He was reported as the first white boy born in Montana and the oldest living white at his death in 1954 in Big Timber, Montana. He marrried Hester Elizabeth ADAMS and Had three children Edith Ann, Edgar Cicle, and Bertram George. The parents were divorced and I feel there was a second family started by William Henry SCHAFFER. In his OBIT he was survived by his son Russel od Deer Lodge, a Granddaughter Mrs. Bob Tabor of Missoula and a Grandson Robert Lee SCHAFFER.
