Came to TN, Davidson County after Rev. War. Had a land grant, 640 acres, ended up in Smith county, married to Elizabeth Gambrel(Gambill), in 1789. Was killed by Indians in 1793 and she, too, in 1795, after marrying Luke Anderson. Trying to connect Richard to immigrant Shaffer family (which one?). Family stories tell of Heidelberg, but is it Germany or PA? Also have been told of Shaffer's Schoolhouse - town or homestead? Richard came to TN with Hickman, Robertson, Henderson, early settlers, etc. I believe Richard's ancestor may have been on ship or at least knew Caspar Mansker (Metzger) family. Both families ended up in Sumner County, TN in early 1790's (census). Would appreciate help connecting to PA and German Shaffers as I would like to visit locations in both. Am writing our Shaffer history and need to travel to places ASAP. Thanks.
