I found Samuel Shaffer on the 1860 Census in Williams County, Ohio M653 R1052 P178, Jefferson Twp., Williams County, Ohio, Page 110, Family 768 Samuel Shaffer, 53, M, Farmer, 1000, 300, PA Clarissa Shaffer, 41, F,OH John Fulberson(?? hard to read), 19, M, None, OH Isaac Shaffer, 17, M, Hand, OH, Attended School Lydia Shaffer, 13, F, OH, Attended School Joseph Shaffer, 12, M, OH, Attended School Seth Shaffer, 4, M, OH Clarissa Shaffer, 1, F, OH In the 1880 Census Isaac states that both his perents were born in PA. I believe that Clarissa is not the mother of Isaac, Lydia, and Joseph. She was born in Ohio. John Fulberson does not appear to be Samuel Shaffer's son but is listed in age order with the rest of the children. There is a large age gap in the children between Joseph and Seth. I believe that Samuel was married, possibly as early as 1827-1830. He had a family including Isaac, Lydia, Joseph and possibly others (between 1830 and 1843). His first wife died after 1848. Samuel married Clarissa in 1854-1855. She had been married before to someone named Fulberson (??) and John, here 19, was likely the only child. I would say that Fulberson(??) must have died around 1840 because Clarissa is still capable of childbearing and if there were other children, younger than 19, they would be here as well. I would like to contact anyone who has information about this line.
