I have a Joseph Stanford Shaffer connected with Ohio, Illinois, Indiana & Iowa. Specific orders unknown. He was b. 9 (or12) Dec 1827 d. 17 May 1869 Adams Township, Dallas Co, Iowa also buried. He married Emily W. DeCamp 11 Feb 1857 Elkhart, Elkhart Co, Indiana. They had 8 children: EDWARD 4 Oct 1852 d. 5 Nov 1853, MINOR GREENE SHAFFER (my grandfather) b. 24 Oct 1857 d. 13 Jan 1924, GEORGE b. 4 Apr 1858 d. 16 Mar 1886, ANNETTA b. 23 Dec 1861 d. 7 Nov 1919, EMMIT b. 27 Dec 1864 d. 26 Dec 1912, MALLISSA b. 7 Jul 1866 d. Aug 1924, ALICE b. 23 Nov 1868 d. Feb 1925 "also" listed in an 1880 census is a MIRANDA age 11 yrs old. Besides the Iowas Shaffer a light bulb went off with seeing "Greene Co" Iowa. I have always wondered where in the world my grandfather inherited a middle name of Greene or Green unless it had something to do with the area he was born in. After my ggrandfather "Joseph Stanford Shaffer" died in 1869 in Iowa, his wife remarried! to a GEORGE W. HULL & between 1870 & 1873 they moved by covered wagon over the Oregon Trail to Washington Territory in the Whitman Co area of Washington state. Thus the 1880 census states the family. Is there a possible connection? Contact me, Linda Sherman at clsherm@televar.com Thank you!!!
