I have been trying to years to find my Grandmother's family who too was a Shaffer, Shafer, Shaefer, etc. What caught my eye is the name Harman, aka Henry, Hiram, Harmom which was a given name of my Uncle and it is said he was named after a G-Grandfather (2) or Grandfather's, I can't remember exactly what my cousin told me. My Uncle I had known as Uncle Bud, I was told his name was Harmon Edgar, then his son told me it was Hiram Edgar. My cousin got the Edgar for part of his name and said he was named in the same way of his father. My cousin is living so I am not posting his surname. The name Noyes also caught my eye being connected to Shaffer, as at a family reunion when I was a child, I met a Nye which is also Noy, Noyes, Naylor, etc aka's. I was young and didn't know that family connected until the reunion. My only knowledge is that at the time I am aware, he lived in Springfield, Ohio. I never saw him again, but know my parents did visit. I know not if he is living, he was closer to my parents age and they are deceased, as are all of their generation. Sarah was the given name of my GG-Grandmother in another line, not Shaffer, and Elizabeth seems to have been in every family line I find. Do you have a picture of any of these relatives? I did, but will have to check and see if it is part of the ones I lost. Mark was able to find my Grandmother (given name spelled differently than I knew but definitely her) married to my Grandfather in census. I really don't care to get anymore personal or close to me here online as I try to be careful about that. One on one I would be willing to share information I know. I don't really know the given names of my G-Grandparents Shaffer, Shafer other than the information above, with the exception of the name my cousin was given in the same pattern as his Father that may help us and his surname I haven't posted. Maybe something will ring a bell with you if we do more of this privately.??? On the back of one picture I saw of my G-Grandparents, they were visiting my Grandmother and family. Stauffer's connection was there too and this had to be c. 1920. They were quite gray haired by then or Blonde. hahaha It didn't say from where they were visiting. They were also photograped with 2 of my cousins I never met and I know one is now deceased from the Social Security Death Index. That Father and son died close to one another. Oh, by the way, on the back of my G-Grandparents picture the name was written Shaefer, my Grandma was known as Shafer and Shaffer. Without know the given name of my G-Grandparents, I am at a dead end. If information shared with me and then more throughly researched, then the given name of my G-Grandmother was Jane Sherman, aka's. I know her Father to have been born 1818-1820 and died in Ohio in 1881 per a newspaper obit. I know this is long, but desperate is what I am. My Grandparents had at least one of their children in Shelby County, Ohio. I know they were living in Lima, Allen County, Ohio when my Grandmother died. Pruett, Pruitt is also a name my Mom mentioned as being connected, but I have no clue to anyone of that name at this time. Harmon is the best clue I have found thus far. He may well be my GG-Grandfather too.
