I have not known much of anything about my Shafer/Shaffer/Schaffer line until just recently. A trip to Indiana last fall helped some, and also the Jackson Co. Genealogical Society gave me some info. I know that Mary and Christian Shaffer came from Hanover, Germany, to the United States about 1837. Mary was born in 1790 and died about the first of February of 1878 in Driftwood Township, Jackson Co., Indiana. Christian died in 1840. They had four children, one of whom was my 3great-grandfather Harman (Harmon) Shaffer who was also born in Hanover about 1818. He married Eliza Hamanhouse also of Hanover in 1845 in Jackson Co., Indiana. Harman had three siblings, one of whom was probably John Christian Shaffer, who was a few years older. Harman and Eliza had two children, Elizabeth C., born about 1847, and Harman Henry, who went by Henry. He was born about 1850, and married Louisa TApe in 1873 in Jackson Co., Indiana. Elizabeth married WAlker Tunston Prue! tt/Pruitt/Prewett in 1863 in Brownstown, Jackson Co., Indiana. They had a daughter Sarah Elizabeth Pruett, who was my great-grandmother. Elizabeth died when Sarah was a baby. When Sarah was 15,her father and Step-mother moved to Illinois. Does any of this ring a bell?
