Fraktur is a late 18th early 19th century folk art tradition. It traces back to medieval illuminated manuscripts. Fractur here in PA is usually describing Eastern PA work.There were many fraktur artists and they can be distinguished by their art. Mostly this art is seen in baptisms and marriage etc. certificates. The calligraphy is combined with folk art designs that we are familiar with as seen in the Lancaster area of PA or any PA German, or PA Dutch area.
