OK, I'll try this again. If you can help Pat, reply privately. She is not a member of the list. Mark Her address: [email protected] Hello I saw your query from Franklin Co in 1997. I am trying to trace my husband's family, including a Jacob Shaffer from Ohio. Might your Jacob b.1817 have had a second wife? Here in Chattanooga it's not easy to get info about "Yankee states", so even though it's a long shot here's hoping! My husband David's maternal grandmother was Edith Shaffer. David remembers that when they "crossed the bridge over the river at Toledo" (going from Sheffield, Ohio, to visit family in Gary, Indiana) his mom always pointed out where her grandpa's farm had been (he thinks in Maumee, Lucas Co). The story is that Edith's mother was his second wife, and he was old when Edith was born. He supposedly paid for substitute to fight in the civil war, and stayed home. From memories and grandma Edith's death certificate I have constructed the line below. If anything rings a bell we would be thrilled. THANX!!
