I have been looking for my Schafer roots for 8 years and have only gotten back as far as the 1870 Census in the Seventh Ward of Detroit. His name was Anton Schafer. He was 32, a Blacksmith and from Prussia. His wife was "Margaret." I don't know her last name but I have her date and place of birth in OH. Two of their four children were born by the time of this census--Maria (1868, Michigan) and Anna, 1869, Michigan.) Charles Anthony (Tony), my grandfather, was born in 1875 in Hamtramck, MI. His brohter Rudolph, was born a couple of years later. There is no further record of Anton. I found his wife, Margaret, on the 1900 census, living with her daughter, Anna, in Dumont, MN, so I assume he died between 1880 and 1900, but have not found a death record. If anyone on this list can provide any clues to these people, I would be very grateful. Jean Snyder
