My Shaefer/Schafer family settled in WI around 1847. Two brothers Johan-Christoph Schaefer [my ancestor] and his brother Matthais Schafer the father of Joseph Schafer the first head of the Wisconsin Historical Soceity or something like that.The family comes from Graach, Rheinland DEU. The family still lives at the winery and vineyard. The American family settled around Iowa and Grant County inthe south west part of the state.
