Royal Shaffer/Sheaffer was born in 1875 in Taylor County, Iowa to: Elizabeth Crawford and ? Shaffer. In the 1880 census we have Elizabeth listed as a Widow with two Children Clare/Clara and Royal A or Roy A. They are listed there with the last name Shaffer, his marriage license states Sheaffer. Elizabeth was born in Abingdon, Knox County, Illinois. I'm hoping my missing person may come from that area, however the death certificate does not list father, the marriage certificate does not list father. Eliabeth married 2 more times.
