Mine came from Prussia, though family stories say it was just prior to the Revolutionary War. His name was Jacob Schaeffer (yeah <g> I know, *that's* a lot of help), and it has been said that he was in the Prussian Army, and had had a duel with his superior officer, which was probably why he came to the New World. There is a bit of a hole between him and the folks I have info on, namely my great great grandfather, George Philip Schaffer. This is how his name is spelled in the Washington state death records. He died at the age of 63 on September 22, 1913, in Tacoma, Washington. His parents are Jacob Schaeffer and Nancy Hanawalt, but I don't know any more about them except that Nancy was probably Pennsylvania Dutch. His wife, Mary Louise Miller, died in 1888 in/at Fort Randall, [South] Dakota, where all five of their children were born between the years 1880 and 1888: Frederick, Alicia, Mable Louise, Miles, and James. Mable is my great grandmother.; she married a William John Stuckey in 1899 in Tacoma, Washington. Alicia married a fellow named Bob Miller in 1899 in Washington State; Miller was kin to Mary. Fred died in 1902 in Washington state, Miles in 1904, also in Washington State. Don't know if this helps. I *am* beginning to think Jacob Schaeffer was a Martian. <G> Lisa [email protected] For more info on my Schaffer/Schaeffer line, check out my web site at: http://www.escargot.com/lisap _____________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail.
