Shaffer celebrated their golden wedding anniversary yesterday at their home. The couple were married January 16, 1869 in Carroll County, Illinois, removing shortly after their marriage to Kansas. After a residence in Kansas of eleven years, they came to California and have been residents of Sacramento for the last thirty one years. Shaffer has been a carpenter at the Southern Pacific Shops for 22 years, and was house foreman for several years. He is still employed in the shops. During the Civil War he servced for five and a half months with Company G, 142nd Regiment, Illinois Volunteers, and is a member of Sumner Post G.A.R of Sacramento. Two children were born to Mr. and Mrs Shaffer, one of whom, Charles F. Shaffer is dead, and the other, Mrs. Fannie Derr, lives in Sacramento. The couple have nine grandchildren; Leon, Guy, Raymond, Delphine, Clarence, Pauline, Earl, Ruth and Edward Derr, all of whom live in Sacramento. House guests at th Shaffer home are Mrs. Shaffer's brother and his wife, Mr. and Mrs. J.H. Depue, with their grandaughter, Miss Floy E. Shannon from Chicago. Sacramento Bee 1/17/1919
