From a family file, they are named as George Amerine (b. Germany, parents William and Mary Amerine) and Kirstin Yelm (b. Sweden, parents Anderson Hjelm and Nilsdotter Wexell). Sarah's father probably died in Rock Island Co., IL (where Sarah was said to be born). Sarah Eliz. does give her father and mother's birthplaces as Germany and Sweden, respectively, in all censuses I've found. John Wesley Shaffer, b. 3 May 1853 in or near Sinnemahoning, in what is now Cameron Co, PA, d. 22 Jan 1914 in Morgan Hill, Santa Clara Co, CA (confirmed by death certificate). Sarah Eliz. b. 13 Feb 1854, d. 18 Jan 1936 in Santa Clara Co also (probably San Jose). They were buried in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Morgan Hill, CA. In the 1910 census, Sarah claims to have had 10 children, 7 living. I've located the names of 4—Lillian May, Edith Ella, Emma Dahlia and George. You'll find them in these censuses: 1880—family living in Clifton Twp, Washington Co, KS, pg 590B 1910—John, Sarah and George in Morgan Hill Prec, Burnett Twp, Santa Clara Co, CA, sht 20B 1920—widow Sarah Eliz. with son George in Burnett Twp, Santa Clara Co, CA, sht 3A 1930—widow Sarah Eliz. living with daughter Emma's family (Tallmon) in the Machado Dist, Burnett Twp, Santa Clara Co. No doubt the 1900 census will provide the names of some of their other children, but I haven't located them yet. Please contact me directly for census details. I also have photos of their headstones.
