I can't help now but notice you are interested in Shaffer and your a Sherman. I have Sherman in my Shaffer line too. I don't know the name of my G-Grandfather Shaffer, but my G-Grandmother Sherman was born c 1856/7 and I have her father too who had been married twice. I have this on census information to confirm. You also mention the name Hiram, that name is in my line of family handed down to an Uncle. However some records show him as a Herman as I thought my Mom had said but I learned from his son the name was Hiram. Long ago I found Herman on Social Security Death Index. My Grandmother was a Shafer, Shaffer, and the maiden name of her mother was Sherman. I have a picture of my G-Grandparents with yet another spelling of the Shaffer, Shafer name, but no given names are listed. As my Grandmother died in OH before I was born, I know nothing about her family and Mom never said much about her line. Another Sherman, who no longer replies, if still living, sent me information he had gathered and it wasn't verified, nor can I find it to be true. He had stated my Grandmother had siblings Hattie, Murlin, or Merlin, and Edger and the father was said to possibly be Benjamin Hiram Shaffer. I have found a Hiram Shaffer m to Sarah Pope and they had a child Edger b 1848. Then I found an Edgar Shafffer b 1851 on census too, he married a Lilly born about the time of my G-Grandmother. Could be the timing of the census that makes the one year difference in age. Any of this sound familiar to you? It confuses me the more I search and I have been at this for years. Others have written saying George was my G-Grandfather also a William. I've been able to find a George William Hiram Shaffer, (I think I got that in the right order for one name. I have heard my Mom say we were also realted to DeCamp when one did the Borax commercial on TV many years ago. I don't know if it is extended family or direct in my Shaffer lines. I know Nothing. HELP.
