    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Shaffer, Shafer, Shaefer, New Mexico, Ohio, PA Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/3hGBAEB/1392 Message Board Post: Another name came to me and I did some checking and found Merle Shaffer b 1893-1969, found him in New Mexico. Usually I don't stray frar from Ohio and close states, but remember a story once told to me by my Mother. I never could remember if she told me how to spell this given name, but did tell me that an Uncle of her's had gone west and that she would hear from him one day. So far as I know, she never did, but talked of it all her life. So now I wonder with the year, if this might be he, brother of my Grandmother Eurilla Eolin Shafer, Shaffer b 1881. With information sent me, the name was spelled differently and may have been a guess, some of it was said to be. Finally last night (morning) this occurred to me. I did some checking but with the date all Family Search had was Social Security Death Record. Of course Elizabeth was a common given name, so I never tried to see if my Grandmother had a sister by that name. Grandma did name a daughter Wilma Elizabeth, b 1912, and a daughter Doris with the middle name Myrl. Sounds close doesn't it. As I was told there was an Edger in the family, I found a cousin with the middle name Edgar but haven't found anyone of that name connected. Could this also be a siblings of my Grandmother or her Father's name???? Mom also told me her brother's name was Herman, but the son of this person said his Father's name was Hiram, and I would think he would know having his Father's records. I just called him Uncle Bud, he had a wooden leg from a motorcycle accident. Sure hope I don't drive this board crazy. I am getting desperate and want to find my Grandmother's family. For those of you that haven't seen my many messages, I don't know the given names of my Grandmother parents, be it Shafer, Shaffer, of Shaefer, etc for their last name. I do have a picture and one of Grandma too. Never met her, gone before I was born. Never met a Shaffer in my whole life, and that sure did seem odd. I find it difficult to believe Grandma didn't have any siblings. Grandma had 7 or 8 children herself. Help, I am getting too old to remember much more.

Judging the fact that they were in a picture with much older cousins of whom I think are now deceased, it would have to be after 1920. I know the children's names, father, mother, but not my own G-grandparents. Grandma died when her baby child was 14. Her name as I know it was Eurilla Eolin Shafer, yet the back of her parents picture is written Shaefer. Spelling was something else back then whoever did the spelling or writing. All I know is the picture said while on a visit. At that time my Grandmother lived in Ohio. She was born 1881 and is not of course on the 1880 census. Would have been nice to see if her name was spelled the way I was told, as other versions are being used now and 1920 census when she was already married. Gosh I thought they might show here the other surnames you listed, but can't see them as I write this and my short term memory stinks. I believe I saw Gilbert, and I know that name is in my lines back to mid 1800's. Haven't found connected to Shaffer but that would be great. Grandma's death record was spelled Shaffer. Seems I remember Tilly, Tilley, Willey, Willet or something like that and often the Woolley name was spelled Wooley, Wolly, Cooley, Ooley, Wiley, etc. Some time ago, I had been sent unverified information that her Father's name was Benjamin H maybe Hiram) Shaffer and he was said to be older than his wife. I also know there is supposed to be Sherman in our lines and if that were my G-Grandmother, I found her to be born 1857. However, was she my G-Grandmother or did he remarry? I can not find they together anywhere. Edith is definitely a name used in my lines. First I saw records I thought was my Grandmother that said Emma, then a cousin said Uhrilla, 1920 has something like Aurilla, Arvilla,? Difficult to find parents of a girl when you don't know the spelling of her name everytime. One of my Grandmother's children had the name Hiram. Son said the name was to have come from a G-Grandfather or Grandfather. I know the name of the other sides name and Edgar isn't there either. Hiram I haven't seen connected, but there was one. Also I was told there were siblings of my Grandmother, Hattie, Merlin orMurlin, and Edger or-Edgar. One of her grandson's was named the same way as his father and he has Edgar and George for names. Ok, I know George name in this case, but no Edgar or Edger. Your Benjamin could be about the right age. Tilley could easily be a nickname but I wouldn't know for what. Email me and I will share with you what I know that I don't know. I know that didn't make sense. eolin@mindspring.com I feel like I am playing the card game fish. Do you have any of these to your knowledge? Sherman Frederick given name Cleve Bernard Neal Sawmiller or Sayre? Beamer Stauffer Chambers Miller Sullivan Lahman? 3. What info do you have on John David and Jacob... two children of David I and C. Faust? I'm searching for the parents of one Edward Shaeffer/Schaeffer. Edward was born in 1822 in Middleport, Pa., Schuylkill County. Father's name was John. I'm unable to find any info on Edward's parents or siblings....feel he had brothers named David, George, and a sister named either Ann or Sarah. There is also an Abraham Shaeffer m. to Matilda Zimmerman Shaeffer in this link but I'm unable to determine if Abraham and Edward were brothers, or uncle and nephew. Any info you have that would give info on Edward's parents would be appreciated.
