I need to get to the library and Historical Center and read up on the Shaffers. A recent visit to the Johnstown Library revealed that the large Shaffer family on Cambria County is NOT related to our Somerset Co. Shaffers. Larry

The first Shaffer of my family to go to Edwards. was Joseph in 1826 and his father was from Penn. He married Lucy Randle and the name Lucy was used extensively in the Randle and Shaffer families. You might find your Lucy in the Woodlawn cemetary. There are online cemetary links which list the graves. Let me know if you need help finding them. Alice

I would bet we are related because of the Lucy name. Lucy Lois Randle married Joseph Shaffer in mid 1800's in Edwardsville. They had a daughter named Lucy, but she was born in 1834. I will keep looking for any more Shaffer info to see if there is anything you might use. You can look for Lucy's grave online. There are a couple of sites that list the graves in cemetaries. I think Woodlawn was one that is online. If you can't find the sites, do a search on Google for online cemetaries. Alice

She was born near Edwardsville in Madison County, IL about 1843, and married Michael Delves Yates 31 MAR 1855 or 1859 in Madison County, IL. She had three children: George (died young) Annie Laura b 1860, and Mary A b 1861. She died sometime after Mary was born in 1861 and before December 1863. Her parents were from Pennsylvania. Because there are several Shaffer/Shafer families in the area, I have not been able to determine who her parents are, or where she was buried. Her husband remarried and he and his family are buried in Woodlawn Cemetery, however I don't know if Lucy was buried there as well or with her parents. Does anyone have information on this person? My grandfather has done extensive research on our family's genealogy however this is the one area lacking. He is in his mid eighties. I would very much like to help him further this branch of our tree. Thank you to anyone who can help.

Andrew married his second wife, Mrs.Sarah Shafer on October 17, 1844. Andrew died on March 19, 1876, in White County, IN. Sarah died on May 6, 1893, in White County, IN. According to her obituary, apparently Andrew returned to Wayne County, IN, after the death of his first wife, Mary. Did he return to family there as he had a small child?
