Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/3hGBAEB/1395.1.1.2.1 Message Board Post: I'm not sure of my Daniel Shaffer's whole name I do know he was married (?) to a Magdelena for a short time and had one son, Ephraim born about 1849. Magdelena died 1850 or 1851. He then married Maria Rhodes and had 5 other children with her. I belive my Daniel was born around 1823 or 24 or 25 not sure. I reason I had ? mark after married was because I have seen records and heard rumors that he may not have been married to one of his wives. I think I remember reading something about Maria or Magdelena being (consort of Daniel Shaffer) listed. I am assuming that he may have not been married to one of them. As for pictures of my Shaffer's I have 2 pictures, one taken before 1924 (it was taken before my G.Grandfather married my G. Grandmother) and they married in 1924. Anyway, it has Noah and Jennie Shaffer my G.G. Grandparents and Homer VanDee Shaffer, my G.Grandfather along with a female relative who I think my be a cousin, we're not sure who she, but my Aunt thinks she is Noah's older brother's child they took in after he died. There isnt anything on the back of the picture or dates. The other picture has Noah and Jennie later in life, I know it was taken no later than 1944, Jennie died in 1944. Its looks like may be late 30's and again no dates. I dont have any death dates for Noah, he has been difficult to find. I dont have a scanner so I'll have to take the pictures to a friends house and send them from there.. I'll try to do it tommorow or Monday. May be you might know who the unknown girl is. Wouldnt that be something? I have names and dates for most of my Shaffer's if you're interested I'll send them. Let me know. Connie

    3. I found Samuel Shaffer on the 1860 Census in Williams County, Ohio M653 R1052 P178, Jefferson Twp., Williams County, Ohio, Page 110, Family 768 Samuel Shaffer, 53, M, Farmer, 1000, 300, PA Clarissa Shaffer, 41, F,OH John Fulberson(?? hard to read), 19, M, None, OH Isaac Shaffer, 17, M, Hand, OH, Attended School Lydia Shaffer, 13, F, OH, Attended School Joseph Shaffer, 12, M, OH, Attended School Seth Shaffer, 4, M, OH Clarissa Shaffer, 1, F, OH In the 1880 Census Isaac states that both his perents were born in PA. I believe that Clarissa is not the mother of Isaac, Lydia, and Joseph. She was born in Ohio. John Fulberson does not appear to be Samuel Shaffer's son but is listed in age order with the rest of the children. There is a large age gap in the children between Joseph and Seth. I believe that Samuel was married, possibly as early as 1827-1830. He had a family including Isaac, Lydia, Joseph and possibly others (between 1830 and 1843). His first wife died after 1848. Samuel married Clarissa in 1854-1855. She had been married before to someone named Fulberson (??) and John, here 19, was likely the only child. I would say that Fulberson(??) must have died around 1840 because Clarissa is still capable of childbearing and if there were other children, younger than 19, they would be here as well. I would like to contact anyone who has information about this line. 1. Samuel O. Shaffer
    2. John Middleton
    3. Good afternoon, all I am new to this list. I am trying to contact anyone researching the family of Samuel O. Shaffer. Here is what I have so far. Samuel was born in 1873 in Ohio. He married Lillian Bell, a cousin of mine, in 1894. They had two sons and lived from around 1900 until quite late in life in Chicago. I have found census records and obituaries/death notices for Samuel, his wife, and sons. According to the death notices the family was quite large by the 1980's. Samuel worked for the Michigan Central railroad around 1910, was an alderman in Chicago in 1920, managed stocks and bonds in 1930, and was, at some point, a superior court bailiff in Chicago. Any contacts or assistance would be appreciated. (NOTE to all: I do not want any responses in regard to the Garret Fortune) I suspect you have some connections here on the Shaffer side and may already know it.
