    1. Henderson Shaver/Shafer Civil War pension file
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Shaffer, Shaver Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/3hGBAEB/1485 Message Board Post: Henderson Shaver, born Dec 1833, died Mar 1902. Married (1) Alcianna Blackshire, (2) Malissa Shaver/Shaffer. Served in B Company, 7th WV CAV during the Civil War. I am looking for a few people who are descendants of Henderson Shaver, or anyone else, who would be interested in obtaining his Civil War pension file from the National Archives. A few years ago the National Archives raised the price of the files from $10.00 to $37.00. If I can get a group of people who would like to have a copy, it would reduce the cost. I would be willing to obtain the pension file and mail a copy to each individual for their share (depends on number of people) plus the cost of copying and mailing. The cost of copying depends on the size of the file. I have ordered other files which have varied from 60 to 260 pages. It normally takes about 8 weeks to receive the files. The ordering procedure is: 1. Mail pension request to the archives. 2. When the file has been located the archives will notify me by post card. 3. About 6 weeks later the archives will notify me the the file has been copied and will be mailed out after receipt of a check or money order.

    3. Thanks for responding. My John W. was born in Ohio (1898) and lived in Chicago. However, I have a very one dimensional view of the family. I have traced back and forward for one line only. There are certainly other lines directly connected and a number of children in each generation that I have not researched at all. I have a Homer S. Shaffer (9/7/1894-8/22/1983) bried in the Thomas Mennonite Cemetery in Conemaugh Township, Somerset County, who was married to a Annie C. Gindlesperger (1/11/1894-1/3/1983). Homer S. is the son of Henry A. Shaffer and Lucy Ann Hershberger. I have Henry A. as the son of Adam A. Shaffer and Caroline Mishler, along with one other daughter Mary E. Shaffer (1878-1960) married to David C. Hershberger. I have nothing farther back on this line than Adam (1843-1928). Shaffers are on both sides of my Somerset Connections so am very interested to find how or if your Noah fits. Could your Homer be a cousin of the Homer above??? I would be very interested in any and all information and very happy to share what I have. Any help greatly appreciated. Dave
