Hello. I am looking for information on John Schafer. He was born in 1822, and died in 1892. He married Anna Katherine Hohmann. They lived at St. Joseph Settlement, Marshall County, (W)VA. If anyone has any information, it is appreciated. Thank you, Susan Nuhfer
Looking for information on Ephraim Shaffer married to Catherine Troxel. Son Levi Charles Shaffer was married to Leanna Jane Straub, daughter of David Straub or Strop and Mary Ebbert. Levi was born 9/3/1852 and died 2/4/1923. My grandfather, Walter Allen Schaffer, was born in Weissport, Carbon County, PA 9/8/1887. Having just returned from Allentown, Lehigh County, PA, and visiting many cemeteries I found this is a very common name in that area. Levi's death certificate says he was born in Lehigh County, PA, so I have no idea when he would have gone to Carbon Counnty where my grandfather was born.
Joan, Ephraim was b. c. 1791 Lehigh County, PA ; d. 1860 Lehigh Co., buried Trexlertown Cemetery. This info plus a great deal more on his family can be found in the Genealogical and Biographical History of Lehigh County, PA p. 1127. Hope this helps.
Levi was my great-grandfather, married to Leanna Jane Straub. His parents were Ephraim Shaffer and Catherine Troxel. I don't know anything about them, but have information on Levi. My grandfather, Walter Allen Schaffer, son of Levi, was born in Weissport, PA. The Shaffers moved to Allentown, where Leanna or Annie as she was called died. Levi died in Hazelton, Luzerne County, PA where he was living with his daughter. In looking at old records it seems my Schaffers couldn't decide just which spelling they would use so different members spelled it differently. Any info or help I can give you will be appreciated.

Carrie, I show that Anna Maria was born 21 Jan 1795 in Upper Saucon Twp, Lehigh County, PA

Dear Sir or Mam, I'm looking for a Katherine E. Schaffer born 1835 and died 1903. She married John Popp and they lived in the Westmorland County area of Pa. I noticed your Jacob Schaffer is from the same area and would like to know if your records show any link to this line. Connie Swailes (Popp)
Connie, I missed this original message, but we(Mom, Aunt, and some cousins) have researched a Jacob Shaffer also. Jacob didn't have any sisters named Katherine. Going by the date it would appear that the mostly likely potential connection would be thru Jacob's father Isaac. Isaac had 12 children, all between 1824 and 1847. Isaac's father was Valentine Shaffer. Isaac had several brothers -- John, Peter, Andrew, and Joseph -- and several sisters -- Catherine, Dorothea, Maria, Elizabeth, and Polly. Don't know the lines from any of them, but that may be a possiblity, especially since Katherine/Catherine has appeared so often in the family tree. Do you have any additional information? In one of my grandmother's scrapbooks, she had a picture cut out that included this description. I don't know if she cut it out because my grandmother's married name was Schafer, or if she actually knew more about the woman in the article. She did not clip the full story, and there was no date included with the article. Does anybody know anything about this woman? "WOMAN TRAINER KILLED BY LION" Mrs. May Schafer, 42 (above), widely known animal trainer, died in the jaws of a lion at Thousand Oaks, Calif., while her son and daughter watched in helplessness. She is pictured here with another lion while working at a motion studio recently. She was in a cage with a lion, a 4 1/2-year-old animal named Sultan, when it lunged at her and clamped its teeth on her neck. See story on page 10.

Hi, Looking for Rudolph George Schaefer, Herman Schaefer, and Regina Schaefer, b. 1820s, 1830s, Niedersachsen, Germany and moving to PA, MN. Just found out we have SCHAEFFER ancestors from Niedersachsen, Germany, specifically Bramsche parish which is near Hannover. In this family are names such as Herman Rudolph Schaefer b. 1798, Christian Heinrich Schaefer b. 1759, Johann Hermann Schaefer b. 1709. Town names listed are: Bramsche, Leeden, Achmer, Hembke, Sandwisch, Pente. This is an area to look at if your Schaefers are listed as coming from Hanover or Prussia. Catharina Hasemann Schaefer b. 1833 emigrated to Pittsburgh PA after her husband, Herman Schaefer, died in Germany. Catharina emigrated with her children, remarried a man named Schuette and moved to MN. I have the lineage and descendants of one of her children, Marie Magr. Charlotte Schaefer Reinking, who married in PA and moved to MN with her mother. I am looking for news of the other three children. Herman and Regina may have stayed in PA or moved to MN. Rudolph George Schaefer, her son, emigrated separately and came to the St. Paul MN area in 1855. Anyone have news of Herman, Regina, or Rudolph? Deborah Link [email protected]

Census says she was born in Prussia, was married to Michael Demuth and died in St. Anthony< Dubois County, Indiana. Let me know if this helps. I have no other information on her. Rich

It's good to see some familiar names on this SHAFFER list that are not spelled Shaffer. Of course Schaefer was a very common name in Germany as was Rudolph, George, Herman, Heinrich, Christian, Johann, etc. Niederschsen (Lower Saxony) is a very large area of Germany. I could not find any of those towns on the maps I have. How far from Hannover is Bramsche, and in which direction? My Schaefers are from Niedersachsen, southwest of Hannover in the Hameln area. They came from Ottenstein on a plateau west of the Weser River, upstream (south) from Hameln. We have been over there twice, the last time in the summer of 1996. Three Schaefer brothers came to America from 1854 to 1865. They were Christian (b. 1826), George William (b. 1831 and my great grandfather), and William Rudolph (b. 1843). Christian and George settled in Goshen, Ind. and William Rudolph came to Pierceton, Ind. I have much information on ancestors and those who stayed in Germany and I have tracked down most descendants of the three brothers over here. I have a German friend in Hannover who publishes church records from that area of Germany. He said he has found his books in the library at Salt Lake City. I also have two 3rd cousins in Hannover. I met three 3rd cousins in Ottenstein. Don Don E. Schaefer, 1297 Deane St., Fayetteville, AR 72703 (501) 521-1229 Internet: [email protected] America-On-Line: [email protected]

All I know is that Dora was the child of John SHAVER. She was born in California in Jan 1863 (from KS census records for 1900). And that she moved to Kansas in time to marry Richard Young GILL in 1882 (again from the 1900 census). I can not find her in the 1870, 1880 or 1885 (KS) census. Does anyone have any information on Dora, her father or maybe on a SHAVER family living in California around 1863? I have information on her husbands family and her descendants to share.
