    3. My great grandfather's name was Edward Shaeffer. He fought in Civil War and was in 28th Pa. on Culp's Hill at Gettysburg. He drove a munitions\supply wagon. We have his diary from that time period, which is fascinating. We are in the process of seeing if we can have his name added to the Pa. monument at Gettsyburg. Any Shaeffer relative history is welcome. Edward is buried in Centralia, Pa. Ethel Shaeffer, his daughter, was my grandmother. She died in childbirth in her 40's. Our family is located in Schuylkill Co., Pa. Anyone who wants to compare notes?

    3. The only way I've kept organized lately is with my Family Tree Maker program. I keep a separate filebox (paper) for everything on e-mail and everything I have copied and researched. Then I have a notebook (printed from Family Tree) that I take with me when I go to the library or archives. I am seriously considering buying a laptop computer - that way all of my names will be with me at all times. With almost 9,000 names it's impossible to take that much paper. Has anyone else thought along those lines? Kathy

    3. This is a copy of a Will I ran across while doing some family research. I thought it was something everyone might enjoy. To me wife, _______, I leave her her lover and the knowledge that I wasn't the fool she thought I was. To me son, _______, I leave the pleasure of earning his own living, for twenty-five years he thought it was my pleasure. To me daughter, _______, I leave one hundred thousand dollars, she will need it, the only good thing her husband ever did was to marry her. To me partner, _______, I leave the suggestion that he find another clever partner at once, if he expects to stay in business. To me valet, _______, I leave him the clothes he's already stolen from me. I being of sound mind but weak in body want my bequeath carried out. 3. Mona, You mentioned that you might have information on Schaefer in Cumberland County, PA. I have a Frederick (Fredrich Shafer) in Cumberland County, PA prior to 1774. There is a Frederick Shafer mentioned in the Tax lists and Air Rates for that period. Also that the area was settled by Germans without land warrants. Our Frederick Shafer was born in Germany and came to this country and worked to defray his passage. A known son was John Adam Shafer born in New Jersey fifteen miles from Philadelphia. (The last part is from Rev. War Records). Do you have any information on this family? John Adam Shafer married Elizabeth Swartwood at Walpack, New Jersey. Elizabeths parents resided in Smithfield, PA and attended the Walpack Meeting. This family moved to Luzerne in 1786.
