Dennis, I have a Shaffer in this time frame. Frederick SHAFER arrived in Philadelphia (17??) and worked in the Philadelphia area to pay for his passage. (From a letter written in 1916) The Rev. war records of his son, Adam SHAFER say that Adam was born in New Jersey, fifteen miles from Philadelphia in 1754. The baptismal records of Sara SHAFFER , first daughter of Adam, state that her father's name is John Adam SHAFER. There is a Frederick SHAFER in Cumberland County in 1769 on unwarranted land. Adam Shafer enlisted in the Rev. War in Cumberland County, that part that is now in Franklin County. I have data to share on descendants of Adam SHAFER and i would like to find documentation regarding his parents. Anyone doing research on this family? Good morning, all. I'm looking for information about my GGGrandparents, Lewis SHAFER and Catherine CONRAD, specifically where they came from and how they got here. According to the 1855 NYS census, (p 15, Wayland) Lewis Shaffer, age 30, was born in Germany, and was here 8 years. His wife, Katherine, age 26, was born in Germany, and was here 18 years. According to Marion E. Scott, the Genealogist and Historian in Wayland, NY, Lewis' parents were George and Catherine _______. Her parents were Henry CONRAD and Margaret BAESEL. Henry was the son of Heinrich CONRAD and Catherine HOPF. Margaret(ha) was the daughter of John Nickolas BAESEL and Marie SCHLEY. In a recent letter, Marion says, "There was a great influx of Germans coming to this area in the early 1800's. They came mostly from the Saar basin, St. Wendell canton. The small communities of Niederlinxweiler and Ottweiler in particular. There were a few in the neighboring down of Dansville that came up from the Dutch county in Penna. But for the most part ours came straight from the homeland." Do any of you have any information about this family? About their history in Europe or their migration here? First an aside: If the Schaefer census data gets put on a website, I hope you will post a notice here! And thank you for your diligence! Does anyone have information about a Maria Schaefer who emigrated to Erie County, PA in1853 or 1854 from Prussia (specifically "Hostbin bei Pottsdam"). She would have been 8 or 9 years old. No idea of parents or siblings but her marriage license was witnessed by a Ferdinand Schaefer and a Carolina Schaefer Heubeck. She married Daniel Serr (em. 1866, Rulzheim), 31Jan1867 in Erie. After the death of William, Aggy moved the family to Milam Co., Texas before 1870. Jacob and his family traveled with and lived next door to Aggy SHAVER / SHAFER in Texas. The name changed to SHAFER once the family got to Texas. My great uncle -- brother of the great aunts -- and that our original Schaeffer ancestor -- possibly also named Jacob -- came over from Prussia in the mid-1700s. My great uncle, says that George's wife (Mary Louise Miller; she died in 1888 in what's now South Dakota and was buried on "an Indian reservation") was the daughter of either Cherokee or Creek woman (Rachel Hildebrand, daughter of Robert), and the great aunts get really *tense* about this little tidbit. And it does makes me wonder, especially when the great aunts' knowledge of the family ends with George. All they will say of the family before George is that "They're *all* Pennsylvania Dutch!" Oh, and George Philip Schaffer died Sept 22, 1913, in Tacoma, Washington, at the age of 63. I am looking for the family to my GreatGrandmother and wonder if anyone has a daughter, or sister, I'm not certain of the correct way to spell her name, may have been Syvilla Susan Shaffer, or Seville, Sevilla. She was born at Miffenlinburg, Pa., Snyder Co., on Feb. 16, 1862, came to Kansas about Mar. 15, 1882, married John S. Wales at Newton, Ks and died in Stanley, North Dakota, Aug. 26, 1940. Greetings All, Looking for the birth location of Christian SHAFFER b 24 Aug 1787. Location probably Lehigh County, PA. Christian married Susannah SHAD, b 14 April 1793 in Whitehall Twp, PA. This family moved to Lockport, Niagara Co, NY, probably in the 1820s. From the census records of their children, it would seem that their marriage date would have been between 1815 and 1820.
