I'm glad to see some other Shaffers from New Jersey, Jenney. I was starting to think they were all from Penn. The earliest Shaffer I have is Phillip, who is from NJ born about 1790 from later census records. He and his wife, Susanna Drake, moved to Muskingum County, Ohio by 1822, when they purchased land. Their children were Steven, William Henry Harrison, Laura, Elmira, Mahala, John Clavin, Louisa, Eurania, and Simon. I have also found a Jacob Shaffer, born 1750 or 1751, in NJ who served in the Revolution He turned up in Muskingum County according to the Index of Rev. War soldiers. I know nothing more about him at this time, although I have written to the National Archives for his reocrds to see if he ties into my Philip's family. Do any other Shaffers recognize either of these men?

Yes, I have Leopold Schaefer, b. in Germany, in Illinois and married to Anna Ring and having children in Chicago in the 1880's. They are Gertrude, Frank William and Magdalen. I know nothing else about him except that he and his second wife, Emma Graper, lived in Winfield, IN, and he is buried along with Emma and her family in Oak Woods Cemetery, Chicago, IL. Karen
