    3. I thought since it was the new year, I would repost my Shaffer Family. Haven't done that for a while. John SHAFFER b. 14 June 1769 in Berks Co. PA. He married Eva Marea THOMAS in 1794 in Stouchsburg, Marion Twp., Berks Co. PA. About 1803 the family went to Huntingdon Co. PA and founded Shaffersville, and helped to start the Lutheran Church there. (Water Street is an old, old village about 2 miles or so from Shaffersville) John and Eva had five children: (1) Jacob b. 1795 married Elizabeth FETTERHOFF (2) John b. 1797 married Margaret FETTERHOFF. (3) Adam b. 1800 married Elizabeth LOWE. (4) Peter b. 1803 married Elizabeth KELLER. (5) William b. 1806 married Catherine Hileman. I have further inf. on all the children. Would be pleased to hear from other descendants. I have been trying to find the parents of John Sahffer b. 1769. I think I have surely looked at all Berks Co. births, but can't find John. I've come close but no proof. Connie Mateer

There are at least two other siblings - Cathy and Harry Shafer. Cathy raised Harry and Herbert George after their parents were killed. This is all I know about these SHAFER's. 3. OK, I'll try this again. If you can help Pat, reply privately. She is not a member of the list. Mark Her address: [email protected] Hello I saw your query from Franklin Co in 1997. I am trying to trace my husband's family, including a Jacob Shaffer from Ohio. Might your Jacob b.1817 have had a second wife? Here in Chattanooga it's not easy to get info about "Yankee states", so even though it's a long shot here's hoping! My husband David's maternal grandmother was Edith Shaffer. David remembers that when they "crossed the bridge over the river at Toledo" (going from Sheffield, Ohio, to visit family in Gary, Indiana) his mom always pointed out where her grandpa's farm had been (he thinks in Maumee, Lucas Co). The story is that Edith's mother was his second wife, and he was old when Edith was born. He supposedly paid for substitute to fight in the civil war, and stayed home. From memories and grandma Edith's death certificate I have constructed the line below. If anything rings a bell we would be thrilled. THANX!! 3. Dec 26 1998 7:15 AM CST I saw your message re Illinois census index I am a Shaffer descendent from a family in Illinois, and seem to have ran into a brick wall on some of them. My gggrandfather was George Shaffer who lived & died in Waynesville Illinois. His son Aaron H Shaffr was my g.grandfather. Aaron had several brothers-one of whom was John Shaffer. They all migrated to Fulton, Ks. after they wer married. Approximate date was 1884 or 85. I have info on all of them except John. I noticed your name and your address-since you are not to far from the Ks location I thought "just maybe" there might be a connection. Fulton is near Ft Scott, Ks. Will appreciate sharing info with you. Mary

I will do lookups, just give the first and last name and county if you know it. If you find the death your looking for it will give the certficate number and the certificates are free from the Illinois Archives. You can only order two at a time. There is a charge if you want a CERTIFIED COPY. Good luck on your search. Merry Christmas from, John & Shirley Shaffer Springfield, Missouri
