Thanks to everyone who replied to my Hobden query. I hadn't thought about the suicide being a sin ..makes sense now. I tried to get information on the inquest as his death certificate has the coroner's name on it, but those records were lost. I will contact the Ancestry entry owners but their trees are unsourced.
