Dear All Back in February I was asking for views and experiences on sending for Army Service Records. I decided to go ahead and send for the record of my Father and Grandfather and was pleased I did. I received a phone call from the Historical Disclosures office about my Grandfathers record and after a discussion decided not to proceed (the only record they had that could "possibly" be for my grandfather, was most likely not). Yesterday my fathers record arrived. It will take a bit of time to work out what all the abbreviations are (they do enclose a list to help). I don't know if it was the norm but my father did move about a lot. Although it did cost £30 if I hadn't sent for it I would always have wondered what I may have missed. My particular record contained 11 pages but I don't know if this is the average. I found all the staff I spoke to extremely helpful. The advised turn round time for the record was nine to twelve months. I sent off my request in April and received it yesterday (about 7 months). I hope anyone else who sends for a record is as lucky as me. Regards Jane Shergold
