    3. Can anyone explain what 'Universal Legatee for Life' means in practice? Context = man dies in 1855, widow still alive but she was the second wife with no kids to that marriage. Man makes daughter from first marriage his Universal Legatee for Life. He was a horse-dealer and I'm thinking he may have had unfinished business that he wanted his daughter to complete for him. I only have Letters of Administration (Effects were less than £50) and the man in question and his second wife were not living together for previous two censuses. I'm guessing they might have separated. But I would like to know what that phrase actually means. My attempts at googling it suggest it does not necessarily mean daughter inherited everything.
