    3. Good evening listers, I have spent all day commissioning my new computer, on which I perhaps foolishly installed Window 7. Amongst all the hardware and software that need updating/ new drivers was my most important program – Family Origins. I have used it for very many years – the box actually says “For Windows 95 and 98”, although it runs happily on XP Professional. So I am looking for advice please on which modern program will accept my data and present it in a similar manner. Graham Noyce St Ives Hunts Mem No 9038

    3. Graham, As I understand it Family Origins was discontinued in 2003 so current support is limited. You need to investigate Roots Magic. When Family Origins was discontinued the same developers wrote Roots Magic and claim that it is the only program that can directly read Family Origin files. 3. Hi Graham Have you tried installing it on Windows 7? I am running a couple of very old programs successfully on it. There are some compatibility settings that you might have to play with (read about these in "Help & Support"). There is also a Program Compatibility Assistant to help. Lastly there is also the option to install a version of XP on a "virtual PC" running under Windows 7. I haven't done that but I think I've seen messages from other listers regarding this in the past. One of these options may save you having to buy and install a completely new piece of family history software.
