Would anyone happen to know how I can access 20th century BMD records for New Zealand? I had a friend check on Ancestry.com (I have only Aust and British access), but she can only find electoral rolls, no BMD records, for NZ. I joked that they probably only record BMDs for SHEEP in New Zealand. But I would like to access human records if they exist. Can anyone help? Cordelia Hull 14526
Relating to the answers that have already given, I can recommend a browse through papers past - when you have plenty of time to spare! Family members could have taken part in sports events, concerts etc. or been named on shipping lists for travel around NZ. Recently I was amazed to read a description of my mother's wedding dress and bouquet in a 1912 newspaper article. Until the 2nd world war changed life forever, any social gathering in this under populated country was reported and ladies attire described. Even in 1935 my late elder sister attended a surf club ball wearing 'an attractive dress of green elephant crepe'!
