Hi there, there are details on this site: https://www.bdmhistoricalrecords.dia.govt.nz/Home/ but births must be more than 100 years ago, and marriages more than 80 years ago. If you check historic newspapers you can often find family notices of BDMs, so try: http://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/cgi-bin/paperspast Another site I have used is: http://www.marvin.otago.ac.nz/marriages/ but it only relates to Otago. Best wishes and have a wonderful Christmas and a great 2013. I had a friend check on Ancestry.com (I have only Aust and British access), but she can only find electoral rolls, no BMD records, for NZ. I joked that they probably only record BMDs for SHEEP in New Zealand. But I would like to access human records if they exist. Can anyone help? Hi All A slight addition to the answer below. Deaths must be more than 50 years ago except if the deceased was more than 80 years old in which case records are available up to the present day. Subject to the limitations on timelines the New Zealand records are excellent and are free. There appears to be a possibility for accessing Non-Historical records ie more recent events than those with time limitations. These are available to persons with igovt ID registration and approved organizations. I have no experience of these and they are not well explained on the web site but do appear to suggest that all New Zealand citizens (subject to having established their ID) and approved organizations can access modern records. I would be interested to hear if anyone has experience in this matter.
