    1. [SFHG] Birth cert missing info!
    2. e-mail marian.hopkins via
    3. Hi everyone! I have a sore head from banging yet another brick wall so I am hoping some kind member can help point me in the right direction!! Apologies in advance if it's so obvious and simple a course of action but I'm stuck!! I have George Willson married to Sarah Ellis in 1876 and his father is shown on the marriage cert as Richard Willson Labourer. George is shown on Census returns as being born in Reading, Berks in 1851. According to the birth cert I received he is recorded as George Augustus Wilson born 1/09/1951. His mother is shown as Charlotte Wilson but the father info section is blank. Can anyone advise me as to how I can now find out more info on his parents? I have received a number of birth certs where the father's name is omitted and have no idea why. Hopefully someone can let me know why this would be the case. Thank you all for your help and I hope the weather is kinder wherever you are today! Regards and thanks again Marian (from a wet & miserable Hants)

    3. Hello Marian, My experience, from my direct ancestry, is that no father on the birth certificate means that the child is illegitimate and takes the mother's name. When the child comes to marrying, maybe he or she know who the father is and write in his name (often deceased!) or sometimes even, just make one up... My great grandmother, whose name was Wood, had 6 illegitimate children - all who bear the name Wood and all of whom were fathered by my great grandfather William Streeton. On their marriage certificates, they note their father as "William Wood"... This is maybe, just one particular poit of view. Maybe it is helpful to your enquiry. Best wishes, Mary -----Message d'origine----- De : sfhg-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:sfhg-bounces@rootsweb.com] De la part de e-mail marian.hopkins via Envoyé : mardi 25 novembre 2014 13:25 À : SFHG@rootsweb.com Objet : [SFHG] Birth cert missing info!
