I must be suffering from the silly season, but I have been trying to find from my SFHG Marriage CD, data about a marriage registered in the September quarter of 1844 in the Hailsham registration district, Volume 7, page 467, but can not find any reference at all. After much messing about with other sources and contacts, I am now looking at a scan of the copy of the original certificate, which gives the ceremony as taking place in the parish church Arlington, between David LAMBERT and Louisa BARNES, by Banns, so as it falls within the date range covered by the CD (SFHGCD002), I would have expected to find it listed. I have not used the CD for a while, so is the silly season encouraging me to do something wrongly, or is this particular marriage actually not included? The Anglican Clergy database entries for Arlington cut off ten years before this marriage took place, and on the scan, the officiating clergyman appears to be Owen Emerie Vidal? (with the last letter or two cut off. So the second question is, "Can anyone help me with his surname please?" One reference I have found suggests that it is actually "Vydral", and that he became a Bishop, so any information about where (and when?) would also be very welcome. Regards Robert SLATER
The Sussex Marriage Index records Anglican & Non-Conformist marriages for the period to 30 Jun 1837 and the information is taken from a combination of parish registers and Bishops Transcripts. There are a few parishes where marriages a few years into civil registration have also been indexed; a few catholic entries and some "strays", such as Fleet marriages are also included. You can check what is included for a particular parish by either clicking on the Place Coverage Icon or using the Reference tab; and Arlington's entries end in 1837.
