Jackie: Regarding your posting to the list of the confusion over your ancestor's name/occupation. Wrightson's Directory of Birmingham for 1835 lists under PATTEN AND CLOG MAKERS one EDW.DAVIS, PUMP TAVERN YARD, BULL RING. Much of the Bull Ring area disappeared in the 1960s construction of the Bull Ring Shopping Centre. The rest plus the shopping centre also disappeared when the new Bullring Shopping Centre opened in 2004. Where Pump Tavern Yard would have been is now beneath the Birmingham branch of Selfridges. Hope this is of interest. Regards, John Cain 10370
Hi John Thanks for the information, that will be the reason I could not find it. Although I did find the National Trust "Back to Back" properties in Inge street on the net where the family lived in 1851 sometime I hope to visit.
