Joe, I suggest you email the relevant Register Office enclosing a scanned copy of the certificate, asking them if they could view the original entry and tell you what the maiden name as the GRO copy is not legible. I recently did this to find out an informants name to a death as the GRO copy was unreadable. Having politely explained the problem, and able to give them the date and place within the district, they then very quickly replied with the name. Stephen Steere Orpington, Kent.
