Donna At Worthing we've just had a talk on this. In addition to the two books listed by Mike Waters there are older ones. Edward Hyde, Lord Clarendon : The history of the Rebellion and Civil Wars in England begun in the year 1641, vols 1-6. which has been reprinted in edited editions from time to time. Edward Peacock : The Army lists of the roundheads & cavaliers, 1642. London: Chatto & Windus, 1874 This one is in the Society of Genealogists' Library. Both covering officers. Our speaker pointed out that clues may be found in parish registers and other places but it is necessary to be alert to them.
