Hello Everyone, Is anyone able to help trace the early years of my Grandfather, ALEXANDER WILMORE? He claimed to have been born in Brighton in 1857, but there is no sign of him in any Public Records until 1881 when he marries FRANCES ELIZABETH HEATHORN in Guildford, Surrey, when serving with the 7th Dragoon Guards at Aldershot. The marriage certificate gives his age as 25, and is dated 30.07.1881 To complicate matters, the 1881 census lists a MOSES WILMORE aged 23, serving with 7th Dragoon Guards at Aldershot, stating his birth place as Brighton and "estimated birth year" as 1858. Alexander Wilmore does not appear in this census, and I have also been unable to trace Moses Wilmore before 1881. Although there is an apparent age discrepancy here, it seems reasonable to think that Alexander and Moses are the same person but if they are brothers, why doesn't Alexander appear in the census if they were both at Aldershot? Alexander died in 1944, but I have been unable to find Moses in BMD nor anywhere else. I suspect that the birth surname of Alexander/Moses was not Wilmore, so can anyone throw some light on possible surnames, or the reason for such complete lack of information before 1881? If any member could help, I would be pleased to hear from them. Frank 12826
