Hello Listers My ggf's sister, Elizabeth DANIEL, a single woman, made her Will in 1869. She died in 1870. She left several bequests of £10 apiece as follows: To my cousin Mrs PUTLAND To my cousin Thomas FARROLL and his wife and to his sister Maria BOSWELL and her daughter Agnes To my cousin Lois TAYLOR and her husband To my cousins Mary LEE and Maria FITZPATRICK As Elizabeth's paternal family was long-settled (of at least 300 years) in Hastings and her mother was from Norfolk, I've concentrated on children of her father's siblings as the possible cousins mentioned. It is possible that these were on her mother's side, but, given the distance, feel she wouldn't have known them so well. Mrs PUTLAND **may** be the Mary Ann VINE who married James PUTLAND (on FreeBMD he is listed as James PULLAND!) in 1849. Ann, one of Elizabeth's father's sisters had married John VINE in 1801 and had a child called Mary Ann in 1806. I've found that Mary, another of her father's sisters, married Jarvis (sometimes recorded James) FARROLL secondly (as widow FOSTER) in 1813. They appear to have had a son Jarvis (or James?) Thomas FARROLL cir 1817/8 (he was 33 in the 1851 Census, and may well have been known by his second name to differentiate him from his father. However Maria BOSWELL (sister of Thomas FARROLL) and her daughter Agnes (BOSWELL I guess) both have me stumped. Lois has been identified as Louise Jane TAYLOR née CARPENTER, the daughter of Elizabeth's father's sister Susannah. Also of difficulty are the two last listed legatees - Mary LEE and Maria FITZPATRICK. There's no indication to their marital status. I've searched the 1881 Census on-line for these names but, apart from the TAYLORs, can't find any of them. Nor could I find any likely references on FreeBMD - could be they aren't transcribed yet. Would SKS be able to give this mystery a bit of thought and point me in a likely direction to solve the puzzle, please? Many thanks. Pam Beaudesert, Queensland, Australia
