Hi from Australia, I am trying to gather information on any PEARSONs or variants, particularly born in Eastbourne, Hastings, Brighton or Hove. In the 1861C (Ref: RG9/592 58 8) 6 Rock Street, Brighton there is a Catherine PEARSON (77) born Eastbourne (abt 1784) a widow retired laundress, living with her widowed daughter Ann BENNETT (53), and her grandson William Bennett (17). I cannot locate this lady anywhere in the previous census records, nor in any later census. Her daughter Ann (surname given as PEARCEY in the Sussex Marriage Index for 31/8/1831 - to John BENNETT) had other children - Elijah, Sarah Ann & Matilda as well as William and another two daughters - Elizabeth & Harriet who possibly died in infancy.. Ann also had a brother Thomas, whose surname was also given as PEARCEY and in the Sussex Marriage Index was married to a Caroline BLACKMAN on 28/7/1825, and they had 4 sons - Thomas, James, Edward & William. Could SKS with access to the St. Nicholas Parish registers for Brighton, (I think this would have been the parish church) see if there is a father's name given on the marriage details of either Ann or Thomas., and/or suggest any other options to solve this mystery please.. If you are researching any PEARSON surname then I'd be very glad to hear from you. Many thanks......Robyn Arkinstall. Gosford, NSW, Australia
Ann Pearcey`s marriage To James Bennett 30/8/1831 is on the IGI and is an extract from the parish records, the 31/8/1831 is an entry submitted by a member of the LDS church.
