    3. Hi   Just an addition to my previous comment on this.   Glover's 'The Place Names of Sussex' says that Thunder's Hill 'takes its name from that of Thomas Thunder, who lived in the reign of Edward VI. His name is also connected with a croft, recorded as le Thonderscrofth in 1486, and a cross, Thunderyscrosse, mentioned in 1487, both sites being in the parish of Chiddingly.'   So a Thunder family was definitely there then, but tying them in with yours will have to be done the way family historians do everything, namely backwards!   Regards   Kathleen --- On Sat, 7/26/08, Jude Charlton <jude.charlton@googlemail.com> wrote: From: Jude Charlton <jude.charlton@googlemail.com> Subject: [SFHG] Thunder Family To: SFHG@rootsweb.com Date: Saturday, July 26, 2008, 9:21 AM I'm new to this group and have started to research my paternal grandmother's family. Their surname is Thunder and the earliest person I can find is Carter Thunder, born 1775 (don't know where), died 1839 in Brighton. He was married in 1800 at St Michael, Lewes. I've found a large number of much earlier Thunders at Chiddingly (through IGI) and a place called Thunder's Hill nearby. I'd like to try and trace the family back from Carter Thunder and see if there's a link to these earlier Chiddingly Thunders. Does anybody have any suggestions? Thanks.
