Is anybody able to help to trace the ancestors of my GMother Catherine ( Cr Kate Noakes) born 1862, died 1946. I've found her family in Lamberhurst. Father Edward born1831 in L'hurst, mother Eliza (nee Cripps)born 1828 in West Peckham. I believe that Kate's parents Edward and Mary were not born in Kent and I'm anxious to trace the Noakes line. My Gmother featured on the front cover of Picture Post in the '39 - '45 war sewing socks for soldiers!. As I'm confined (Amputee) to a wheel chair travelling to search is somewhat limiting. It is my hope that someone may have turned up some clues whilst searching their own line. Ever hopeful Michael
Hi Michael, According to the 1841 census, Edward and Mary were not born in Kent although all 6 children were. (Mary, Joseph, Edward, John, Sarah, Ann) 1851 census Edward is shown as living at Whisketts Farm Lamberhurst, born Hastings 1801. Mary, also born 1801, is shown as being born in Cranbourne, Dorset. They are still at Whisketts farm in 1861. Hope this is of some use.
