After 8 years of tracing my mother's ancestors and feeling quite pleased with myself at what I'd achieved I decided to see if I could find my grandfather's military service record and now I wish I hadn't because it's beginning to look as though 'Grandfather' was serving in France during WW1 at the time of my mother's conception but was the named father and the husband of my Grandmother Oh dear! oh dear! Dare I hope that somehow there's been a mistake. I haven't had much luck with grandfathers as I made the same discovery with my father's 'father'. who was apparently a POW 1914-18. But at least I hadn't traced his line back to the 17th century. I'm sure I'm not the first person to make such a discovery and would appreciate the views of other members with the same experience. I shall take consolation in the fact that my mother's sisters were grandfather's children at least. Jennifer
