Carole, Thank you for your reply. The evidence I have for John Miles' date of birth is, I grant, firstly only IGI but there is also the dating of later generations and other evidence. For instance, I know that he married Elizabeth Patching in August 1792 and that his daughter Anne married my GGgrandfather in 1829, so I think 1767 is a fair guess. I think it is highly probable that they took twenty years to make up their minds about marriage! Have you any other details about John Harman (the Elder)? At present he is the top of this branch of my tree; I know nothing of his ancestors or indeed of other siblings of John Miles. I have a copy of the parish register of his marriage to Kitty Miles on 23.10.1785 at St Nicholas, Brighton (witnesses John Harman, Edward Ovett, Martha Miles(?) Barbara Jeffery). His daughter Kitty Pierce (nee Miles) was born in 1786 and lived to the grand old age of 97. Are you sure that 1767 is the birth date of John Miles Harman? Could he possibly have been born to Kitty before she married, hence the name? These fishing families oftern intermarried so it is quite likely that an earlier John Miles Harman married a Kitty Miles. The Harman name is connected with fishing families and goes through the generations in my family research along with other fishing families in my tree of Ovett, Pierce and Salvage Regards Carole (5875) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Get the MapQuest Toolbar, Maps, Traffic, Directions & More!
