    3. The Surrey county record office should have the Coroner's reports on inquests, although traditionally they are not that informative. If you have the good fortune to find a local newspaper report of the incident (library/CRO) and/or the subsequent inquest, they are usually the most useful source for family historians. Good luck! If Coroners reports were, more often than not, destroyed after 15 years; They were the property of the coroner, and there was no obligation to submit them for archival. Some reports were kept if the case was of "particular interest". Bizarrely, despite full, and often frank, reports in the local press, such reports remain closed for 75 years. -- Regards _ / ) "The blindingly obvious is / _)rad never immediately apparent" When I say ugly, I don't mean rough looking, I mean hideous Ugly - The Stranglers

    3. Hi Brad, I'm sure you're right, and I certainly concur with you re. the 75 year rule. Indeed, perhaps I should have advised Lynne that there's no guarantee that her particular Coroner's report has survived. Personally, I would simply ignore the official report anyway, and go for the possibility of a newspaper report(s). Regards, Mike (1586). ----- Original Message ----- From: "Brad Rogers" <brad@fineby.me.uk> To: "Sussex FHG" <sfhg@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, April 26, 2008 12:12 PM Subject: Re: [SFHG] Agnes Sarah WRIGHT > On Sat, 26 Apr 2008 11:17:56 +0100 > "Mike Searle" <tropoman@tiscali.co.uk> wrote: > > Hello Mike, > >> The Surrey county record office should have the Coroner's reports on >> inquests, although traditionally they are not that informative.
