Hello Listers I have a will written in 1787 with wording ' I bequeath unto my son Joseph all my estate term and interest in the law of the two farms situate aforesaid which I hold of Mr . and Mr . Am I right in thinking that 'hold to' meant that these farms were leased to the two men named? Margaret Major #5836

    3. Hello Margaret, I agree with Judy that the wording usually means that the 'holding' the land is the tenant. The owner is the person he holds it 'of'. Kathleen "M.
