Hello Claire I have a death certificate of an ancestor who died at sea, it was obtained from GRO and is a copy of an entry in the Marine Register of Deaths. His ship had left Southampton and when it reached Plymouth he could not be found and it was assumed that he had fallen overboard. (Cause of death reads "supposed to have fallen overboard") We applied for his certificate after finding his details in the 'Marine Register' in 1992, 117 years after his death was registered in 1875. Hope this is helps, at least it shows it is possible! Encyclopedia Titanica I had already found, with some details about the two men I am researching. What I really need is a death certificate for one of them in particular, as he is proving difficult to find in other sources.
