A new index has appeared on Ancestry for Deaths between 2007 to 2013, but I'm not sure where the information has come from. At first, I thought it was the GRO Death Indexes, which would mean that this new information would complete the Death Indexes from 1837 to 2013, but this is what Ancestry has to say about it: "About England and Wales, Death Index, 2007-2013 This index provides death details for people in England and Wales, specifically their name and title, gender, postcode, date of birth or age at death, and date of death." Also: "Source Information Ancestry.com. England and Wales, Death Index, 2007-2013 [database on-line]. Provo, UT, USA: Ancestry.com Operations, Inc., 2014. Original data: British Death Indexes. Various sources." Of course, all this vagueness makes me wonder just how reliable the data is going to be. I wonder if some of it has come from the new probate registry web site, but then, why stop at 2013? Any ideas? Best wishes, Marion Woolgar Bognor Regis, West Sussex SFHG Member No: 3323
Well... I just tried out the index by searching for a friend who died three years ago. They have his year of birth and date of death correct but have moved the registration district from Suffolk to Devon.
