Hello Chris, I agree with Tony, and what is useful with the British Newspaper Archive, although time-consuming, is that you can do your look-ups beforehand to see if there is anything and then subscribe afterwards to check it out completely. I have a year's subscription as there was a cheap offer going last year. But before that, I took out a monthly subscription every now and again, which was only about £10. You need to do it when you're sure that you've got time to actually do the research. I assure you that it's really interesting to read "old" newspapers. If you're "lucky" enough to have an ancestor who got into trouble with the law, there are sometimes very lengthy descriptions of the offender and the crime. The court cases are very entertaining in their details - recording "laughs" during the trial etc... Even the adverts are worth looking at! Births, death and marriages are often recorded in the local papers for "ordinary" people - not just the high society ones, like in the National papers. I'd advise you to give it a try! Good luck!
