Chris, FMP and BNA are very different - FMP is a variation on FamilySearch and Ancestry and a useful starting point to make connections and find certificates, while BNA is a comprehensive newspaper archive. I have found BNA extremely useful for information about places, events and people at different times and the archive is being added to weekly. Searching can be frustrating but often very rewarding. Hope this helps.
