I am wondering if someone is able to help me. I am trying to find the parents of Stephen SISLEY who was born in Tenterden circa 1835. In the 1881 census he is shown to be living in Susans Road, Victoria Terrace, Eastbourne with his wife Maria also born in Tenterden in 1839. His occupation was shown to be a wheelwright. I have in my records two burials at St. Mary's Church, Eastbourne: Ann SISLEY buried on 29th August 1878 (aged 52 / born 1826). Stephen SISLEY buried on 6th October 1886 (aged 51 / born 1835) Both burial records show the wording "Union House" I assume Stephen and Ann were man and wife. As Ann died in 1878 it would appear that Maria was Stephen's second wife. I cannot trance any record of either of Stephen's marriages or the death of Maria SISLEY. I have managed to trace a Stephen Harman SISLEY born in 1833 baptised in Guestling Green (not Tenterden). His father was a wheelwright. I am not confident that this is the Stephen I am trying to trace. John Sisley (Member 11601)
Hi JohnIn case you haven't already checked the Sx Marriage Index, the parents of Stephen Harman Sisley are probably the following:Samuel Sisley marr Elizabeth Harman 16 May 1819 Guestling (no other details provided)It's interesting that the name Sisley, as you probably know, only seems to appear in Sx in the parts bordering on Kent. There are no other Stephens in the SMI.Good luck!Christine JacksonSFHG 397 From: John Sisley via <sfhg@rootsweb.com> To: SFHG-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Monday, February 23, 2015 7:29 AM Subject: [SFHG] Sisley - Help Required I am wondering if someone is able to help me. Not sure if this helps, but the only marriage that I can find from the Mid-Kent registers around that time is as follows: 182513 FebruarySISLEY EdwardElizabeth KempTenterdenTenterden On Mon, Feb 23, 2015 at 3:55 PM, Christine Jackson via <sfhg@rootsweb.com> wrote: > Hi JohnIn case you haven't already checked the Sx Marriage Index, the > parents of Stephen Harman Sisley are probably the following:Samuel Sisley > marr Elizabeth Harman 16 May 1819 Guestling (no other details provided)It's > interesting that the name Sisley, as you probably know, only seems to > appear in Sx in the parts bordering on Kent.
